How To Throw A Cast Net

Throwing a cast net is not that difficult once you learn the correct technique and believe me there are a lot of techniques out there.

The so called "Pros" make it look easy and with a bit of practice, it really is.

When you throw a cast net with so much effort that you're tiring yourself out, you're probably trying to throw it too hard and are definitely throwing it wrong.

When your net is loaded properly and you rock back, you will feel the weight of the net behind you.  When you throw the net, you need to follow through.  Just like Golf swing, Pool stroke, etc.

It's a lot like fly casting.  When you lift the line out of the water to cast, you need to wait until you feel the weight of the fly line behind you before you bring your cast forward.

Throwing a cast net is done in somewhat the same way.

This video by Calusa Nets is one of the best videos I've come across for explaining how to throw a cast net effortlessly.

Watch it a few times and then try the cast net again.  I'll bet within a week you'll be cast netting like a pro.

Another method that works just as good if not better is the "Ed Shumaker" method which is demonstrated in this video.

Another way to throw a cast net that is super easy for beginners is illustrated below.  This method is especially quick and easy with smaller diameter nets.

And finally, another method I use in the wildlife refuge when I'm in a hurry...  Pretty much always.

Pretty Neat!!

Enjoy and Tight Lines!
